Salvation:

What is it to be saved?

(Mat 11:28-11:30 KJV) Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. (PJR rev.8/19/05)

Salvation?

[Salvation? What must we do to be saved? Not much, because the LORD, our God has given His only begotten son, our Lord, Jesus Christ, as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. We can not enter into heaven while we are yet sinners. We cannot possibly ever hope to enter into the Holy place while we are yet unholy. Jesus is our sacrifice for our sins, and the only sacrifice sufficient to cleanse us, sanctify us, and make us Holy. However, there are qualifications to this.

The person must first BELIEVE that Jesus is who He is, the only son of the Living God, born by the Holy miracle of a virgin birth, who was without sin for His entire life, without spot or blemish, the only perfect Holy sacrifice that would be acceptable and pure enough to cover all of our sins against God, and that He took all of our sins upon Himself, of His own free will, died on the cross and gave His blood as the only perfect sacrifice sufficient to atone for all of our sins, arose again from the grave after three days, spent more time on earth, and then arose to Heaven to take up His rightful place at the right hand of God, and sent us back the Holy Ghost. But believing isn't enough. The person must not ONLY believe, because there's more. Even the demons believe that Jesus is God, because they live in the spiritual realm. How could they not believe? But they will not go to Heaven, because they are not qualified. There is more to it! One must believe in their heart, and confess, or speak aloud, or accept, that Jesus is Lord, the Messiah. But wait, there's more! One must also REPENT from their life of sin, turning away from evil, and turning toward the ways of God, accepting Jesus as their PERSONAL Savior.  The Bible guides us to REPENT and be BAPTIZED. You will read more on Baptism in a minute.

And is there more than that? Well, after being saved, and justified, there should normally be a change in us, as the Holy Ghost begins to sanctify and guide us into all righteousness, preparing us for the service in this world and preparing us to enter the next. But that is not a requirement for salvation. Yet, our hearts, now being led by the Holy Ghost, will begin to lead us to do the things of God,  while we willingly seek Him while He might be found. We might seek the additional BLESSINGS that are here for us, and functions to fulfill for the Lord, like we can read about in the New Testament. We might seek to be united with other believers and seek to seek God even more by following the practices of the early Church as the disciples of Jesus, filled with the Holy Ghost, guide us in the book of Acts… (read on!)]

(Acts 2:1 KJV) And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

(Acts 2:2 KJV) And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

(Acts 2:3 KJV) And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

(Acts 2:4 KJV) And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

(Acts 2:5 KJV) And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.

(Acts 2:6 KJV) Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

(Acts 2:7 KJV) And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?

(Acts 2:8 KJV) And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?

(Acts 2:9 KJV) Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,

(Acts 2:10 KJV) Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,

(Acts 2:11 KJV) Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

(Acts 2:12 KJV) And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?

(Acts 2:13 KJV) Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.

(Acts 2:14 KJV) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:

(Acts 2:15 KJV) For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.

(Acts 2:16 KJV) But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

(Acts 2:17 KJV) And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

(Acts 2:18 KJV) And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

(Acts 2:19 KJV) And I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

(Acts 2:20 KJV) The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:

(Acts 2:21 KJV) And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

(Acts 2:22 KJV) Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:

(Acts 2:23 KJV) Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:

(Acts 2:24 KJV) Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.

(Acts 2:25 KJV) For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:

(Acts 2:26 KJV) Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:

(Acts 2:27 KJV) Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

(Acts 2:28 KJV) Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.

(Acts 2:29 KJV) Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.

(Acts 2:30 KJV) Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

(Acts 2:31 KJV) He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

(Acts 2:32 KJV) This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.

(Acts 2:33 KJV) Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

(Acts 2:34 KJV) For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

(Acts 2:35 KJV) Until I make thy foes thy footstool.

(Acts 2:36 KJV) Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

(Acts 2:37 KJV) Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

(Acts 2:38 KJV) Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

(Acts 2:39 KJV) For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

(Acts 2:40 KJV) And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

(Acts 2:41 KJV) Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

[So, why should we also be baptized when Jesus had done all that needed to be done? Isn't that "works" on our part? Well, no. It's an outward expression of an inner will to please God. It's also the thing to do, for anyone who wishes to follow the Biblical ways to sanctification. And what about this "gift of the Holy Ghost" and speaking in tongues and all of that? Well, I'll cover that in another section. For now, I'll say that the Holy Ghost is a gift of God (and is in fact the very living, thinking presence of God), who will guide you into all righteousness, empower you to perform God's will for you in this lifetime, enable you to understand God's will, bring all of Jesus' words to your remembrance, comfort you in troublesome times, guide your very footsteps, and give you a taste of what heaven will be like, while still in this world! There's so much more to this, but, as I said, in another section. But, the baptism in water is a very symbolic, yet very real experience. It shines of our death and burial to sin and our resurrection to true life. The baptism of the Holy Ghost is the real thing! It IS the resurrection of our souls while we live in this world. For, when the body does finally die and is buried, our souls will live on, and will eventually be joined to the Holy one, Jesus Christ!

Easton's Bible Dictionary defines Sanctification like this: " Sanctification - involves more than a mere moral reformation of character, brought about by the power of the truth: it is the work of the Holy Spirit bringing the whole nature more and more under the influences of the new gracious principles implanted in the soul in regeneration. In other words, sanctification is the carrying on to perfection the work begun in regeneration, and it extends to the whole man (Rom. 6:13; 2 Cor. 4:6; Col. 3:10; 1 John 4:7; 1 Cor. 6:19). It is the special office of the Holy Spirit in the plan of redemption to carry on this work (1 Cor. 6:11; 2 Thess. 2:13). Faith is instrumental in securing sanctification, inasmuch as it (1) secures union to Christ (Gal. 2:20), and (2) brings the believer into living contact with the truth, whereby he is led to yield obedience "to the commands, trembling at the threatenings, and embracing the promises of God for this life and that which is to come."  Perfect sanctification is not attainable in this life (1 Kings 8:46; Prov. 20:9; Eccl. 7:20; James 3:2; 1 John 1:8). See Paul's account of himself in Rom.  :14-25; Phil. 3:12-14; and 1 Tim. 1:15; also the confessions of David (Ps. 19:12, 13; 51), of Moses (90:8), of Job (42:5, 6), and of Daniel (9:3-20). "The more holy a man is, the more humble, self-renouncing, self-abhorring, and the more sensitive to every sin he becomes, and the more closely he clings to Christ. The moral imperfections which cling to him he feels to be sins, which he laments and strives to overcome. Believers find that their life is a constant warfare, and they need to take the kingdom of heaven by storm, and watch while they pray. They are always subject to the constant chastisement of their Father's loving hand, which can only be designed to correct their imperfections and to confirm their graces. And it has been notoriously the fact that the best Christians have been those who have been the least prone to claim the attainment of perfection for themselves.", Hodge's Outlines.  "

But, be forewarned on one subject: This business of Sanctification is a lifelong process, even after the in-filling of the Holy Ghost. And here is why: "Eternity" is timeless, as is God, not bound by time. After all, how could God be bound by time when He created it? "Forever" implies a starting point and no ending point. Time is a gift of God that we are bound by while we live in these bodies. Time gives us the opportunity to start as a sinner and then go through the salvation process. But while we live, having been saved, we will have a drive to want to God's will, stumble, repent, be humans. We are still not perfect in this world, but we still have an advocate who will guide us, speak for us, intercede for us, because He loves us. God is patient and longsuffering on our parts, but don't push it. And when we go to heaven, we will still have to stand in judgement and account for our lives, and for unconfessed sins and things we did and said after the time that we were saved. And we will each have to do this at the Judgement seat of Christ, while unbelievers will face the white throne Judgement. This is why the Bible mentions things about saved believers being filled and refilled with the Holy Ghost, and working out our own salvation with fear and trembling. Sanctification is a lifelong process while we live, since we each will have a Holy mission for the Lord, set aside and separated from the world, operating in the Spirit, functioning in the body of believers in Christ. And this position which we each might have must be fulfilled with all Holiness, in reverence for the Lord. The Holy Ghost will empower you ALWAYS to do the will of God in your life. It behooves the believer not to grieve the Holy Spirit of God. For who else would you turn to then?]
